About EFG Books & Gallery

EFG Books is a cozy bookstore and art gallery open year-round in the heart of the lakes region of southern Maine. We carry mostly used books in a wide variety of subjects, specializing in classic literature, poetry and 2Oth century fiction. We also have a wide range of other titles in biography, art, drama, history, essays, children's and more.

And in our new book section is possibly the greatest selection in New England of beat generation titles still in print. Including Jack Kerouac, Gary Snyder, Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, William S. Burroughs, Bob Kaufman, Robert Creeley, Lew Welch, Robert Duncan, Kenneth Rexroth, Denise Levertov, Anne Waldman, Charles Bukowski, Ken Kesey and Robert Hunter. As well as great masters like James Joyce, Ezra Pound, William Carlos Williams, Henry Miller, Dylan Thomas, Samuel Beckett, Harold Pinter, Thomas Merton and so many more.

In addition to all these great books, we also have a small art gallery in the back of the store that features single artist shows spanning 4-8 weeks depending on the season. We are always interested in new artists so drop by with a portfolio if you have some great art to show. We encourage artists who may not have an extensive résumé to bring in their portfolio anyway; not all great art is made by people with long résumé's!

And finally, since 2006 our trademark Nine Point Publishing has been publishing a semi-annual literary magazine called Omphalos every June and December. The magazine features excellent poetry, fiction, art, essays, interviews, drama and more from both local and distant writers and artists. We are currently distributing Omphalos to many bookstores in Maine, New Hampshire, New York and Pennsylvania, and we are always working to expand its availability. So send us your submissions via email or regular mail and for more information click here. Omphalos emphasizes the same intent as the art gallery: that we are hoping to expose great writing and art from both accomplished writers and artists as well as those who may not be known outside their local circles, so please don't hesitate to send us something! Back issues may be available upon request. The price of each magazine is $5.OO.

Come take a look around, grab a book and make yourself comfortable in one of our cozy chairs! We don't care how long you stay.
