Exploring the Source

EFG Books and Gallery
Bridgton, Maine

February 4, 2010

We began the sixth installment of the Exploring the Source reading series with Lisa Moore, who is a member of the Mountain Poets Society, a group that meets in Norway once a month. She read poems from a self-published chapbook entitled Closet. Next, Eric Dibner returned with poems that spoke of place and his love of Western Maines natural beauty. Jamie Douglas read These Were the Intellectuals, a sprawling poem of several different degrees of conscience and perspective. Next, we had a theatrical performance of The First Elegy from Duino Elegies by Rainer Maria Rilke by Will Rhys, an accomplished actor. Margie Jansz returned with poems of observation from everyday life that helped illuminate the ordinary. The last open mic reader was Maya Critchfield who read a poem inspired by coyotes. She also recited a poem by Maine native Edna St. Vincent Millay entitled Recuerdo. Michael Corrigan, our featured reader read a wide array of poems. First about communication in love, including Accustomed to Your Farce. Second, he read some political poems including Destiny's Manifest. Then some personal poems including Panther Run. Finally, Mike ended with The Art of Levitation and another poem on communication, this time concerning integrating cultures.
